Guess who’s back?! Back to our blog, that is…
Well hello there!
We know it has been quite some time since our last blog post, so we thought it was time to pick this back up again and share what we have been up to for the last two years!
First things first, we are proud to say that we have survived a pandemic! We learned to pivot our operations and increase our flexibility in how we run our organization. This includes moving most activities and initiatives to the digital world, and getting creative with fundraising events.
In 2021 we expanded our network, partnering with another organization in their efforts to help overflowing shelters in Barbados feel some relief and find homes for the dogs in Canada instead. At first, we were unsure about how we could make this mission align with our core mandate. After much discussion, we determined that it was a good complement to our mandate – saving dogs from overfilled shelters. We made a conscious effort to ensure that partnering with Barbados would in no way affect our ability to help local shelter dogs needing rescue, and we held true to it.
In early 2022, Save a Dog Network Canada popped up on our radar. Katie, a hard-working and ethical rescuer in Northern Manitoba helps fly-in communities combat the ongoing dog crisis. Between the lack of medical opportunities, the need for sterilization, and the bitter cold, these communities are struggling to provide dogs with the shelter, food, and medical attention that they desperately need. Once again, we are proud to report that helping dogs in Manitoba does not affect our ability to help local shelter dogs.
In fact, nearly every weekend we are in local shelters assessing stray and surrendered dogs and networking them out to other rescues while intaking those that we have foster homes for. We are continuing to work hard on getting dogs ready for adoption, and ultimately get adopted into their forever homes, so that we can take in more dogs that deserve a second chance. Our growing team of dedicated volunteers are determined to save as many lives as possible, both local and abroad.
How can you help? We are always looking for new foster homes. Read up on what fostering entails on the Foster tab of our website, and make sure it is right for you. Not able to foster? Like and follow us on Facebook and Instagram and share our posts whenever you can! Exposure helps us get noticed, and ultimately gains us support for our mission. Consider volunteering with us – we would love more people to help us plan and host our events! More of a homebody? Let’s chat about volunteer opportunities that keep you closer to home (hello data entry and phone calls!). Send us an email at info@sitwithme.ca to get the conversation started. Talk soon!
