Dillon
Dillon has had a rough go but brighter days have arrived. He came into care this summer after it was reported that he was being physically abused by his owner. He ended up at an emergency clinic and then left at the shelter in a dire state with a broken leg, swollen face and the start of sepsis. He almost did not make it due to the extent of his injuries, but the rescue worked quickly to help him. It took months for him to recover and he is still getting better, one day at a time. The great thing about Dillon is that he wants to be loved, wants to be involved in whatever his people are doing and is a pretty playful guy. Of course, he does have trauma from his past, so it is important that any home that adopts him continues to advocate for him with positive interactions with people, lots of treats, calm energy in the home and absolutely no punitive training tools or handling.
Dillon is smart, eager to please and has great focus. He is also a bit of a goof ball and will do what he wants when play is on his mind. He loves bouncing around and playing with his doggy buddies (he lives with a couple of dogs and does well). He does need to learn to trust any dog or person who comes into his life, so treats are a great thing to always have in your pocket. He will bark at any new person that comes into the home and will need his people to advocate in these scenarios by giving him space and avoiding social pressure to interact right away. He can be won over when given space and treats and does want to be loved! He initially barks at new dogs, but once he trusts the other dog, he is a very happy guy.
Dillon is crate trained but he likes to wake up early and start his day. He is still working on his leash skills so much of his free time is having fun in the yard. Even though he had a pretty big surgery to fix his break, he is running and playing very well. After a good play, Dillon is very happy to come inside and receive all of the love, and sit by your feet or next to you on the couch if you invite him up.
If ever a dog deserved the best home out there, it would be this guy. Being a pup still, we know he would love a home that would help him shine by taking him to positive reinforcement training classes.
If you have the love and time to devote to our boy Dillon, and have a calm home life, please apply. He is a pretty special guy and deserves a very special home.
