Thank you for considering fostering a dog through Sit With Me Rescue. It is life saving work and we could never help as many dogs as we do without our amazing foster homes.
Before you continue, please note that all members in the house must be on board with fostering and that you must be 21 years of age or older to apply. Resident pets should be spayed/neutered (where applicable) unless a medical or confirmation reason can be provided. If you rent, you must have your landlord’s permission as well.
Fostering, first and foremost, is HARD work. Some initial things to consider when fostering for Sit With Me Rescue:
The first step in deciding if fostering with Sit With Me Rescue is right for you is to determine which types of dogs you are able to foster (please check off as many that apply to you):
Our mandate at Sit With Me Rescue is a bit different than other rescues. We focus on taking in dogs from local shelter systems where the dogs have minimal opportunity of being adopted through the traditional adoption process. This means we focus on dogs that might otherwise be euthanized and often need above average care and training once they come into our foster program. As such, the needs of the dogs fall into predictable categories allowing us to focus on foster homes willing to work with these needs. We rarely receive any history on a dog we take in, and if we do, it is limited.
As you have indicated that you are in a position to help one or many of the types of dogs we take in, we feel you would be a good match for our foster program!
We would love for you to start the process to join our foster team. The next step is to complete the application on the next page. Once complete, we will contact you to arrange a time to chat. If the call goes well, we move to a home visit and reference checks. And then we start working together to save lives!
Unfortunately, we would not be a good match for your offer to volunteer as a foster home. Your offer is still very much appreciated and we recommend that you contact other rescues that might be a better fit for your home. Some rescues take in owner surrendered dogs wherein more of a history is known. Please be sure to do your research on any rescue you choose to volunteer with as your time is valuable.
If you feel you would still like to foster with us, you can send an email to foster@sitwithme.ca to discuss your situation and why you feel you would be a foster home we can use based on our mandate.
